SCC
mainly conducts business with large public sector bodies and companies. With its headquarters in Birmingham, UK, SSC is Europe's largest private technology firm with regard to revenue. It is also Hewlett-Packard's biggest European partner. The organization's main competitors include Morse Group and Computacenter. Sir Peter Rigby, in 1975, established the Specialist Computer Recruitment (SCR). This was an outsourcing operation, which led to Specialist Computer Services (SCS) in the year 1980, and this was closely followed by SCC in 1982.
The 1980s saw SCC opening offices in numerous UK cities, which featured London and Edinburgh. After that period, 1990s saw the emergence of a completely new strategy. This mainly focused on expansion by acquisition and not by growth. The company has conducted regular takeovers since the year 1995, and recently as acquired MVS Srl from IBM Italia. The year 2002 saw Peter Rigby being knighted over his contribution to the IT sector and the subsequent business in the Midlands. SCC Exchange, the company's SME arm, was established in 2004. With stunning figures of Ј2.038 billion turnover for the year 2005, SCC became the largest privately-owned organization in West Midlands and the company has been ranked as 11th largest overall in the UK.
Structure of the company
SCC as an organization is under the umbrella company named Specialist Computer Holdings (SCH), which is fully owned by Sir Peter Rigby, its Founder, Chairman and CEO. The company has sister companies again under the SCH banner, including Specialist Computer Recruitment (SCR). It has two distribution companies as well namely Interchange and Enhanced Technologies Corporation (ETC). There was a third one as well, which incidentally, closed down in March 2006.
The company's operations are actually split up between the UK and Europe, and Sir Peter's two sons, namely James Rigby and Steven Rigby, are the two leaders steering the respective sides of the organisation. The main emphasis of the business traditionally depends on very large organizations. A new division by the name of SCC Exchange was founded in 2004, and it targeted the British small and medium enterprise arenas. Subsequently, SCC Exchange branches have been established and remain operational in several European countries.
