    Infosys
     
     
    A multinational information technology based organization headquartered at Bangalore, Infosys Technologies Limited, is easily reputed to be one of India's largest IT companies. The company has nine development centers in India alone and spans an entire range of over 30 offices worldwide. The company Infosys and its subsidiaries together employ slightly over 80,501 professionals according to figures provided on September 30, 2007. The company's annual revenue for fiscal year 2006-2007 has exceeded US$3.1 billion and it has a market capitalization of over US$30 billion.
     
     
    The company Infosys was established in July 2, 1981 in Pune by N. R. Narayana Murthy along with Nandan Nilekani, N. S. Raghavan, S. D. Shibulal, Kris Gopalakrishnan,, Ashok Arora and K. Dinesh, and subsequently Raghavan was the first employee of the company. N. R. Narayana Murthy started the organization when he borrowed the amount of Rs.10,000 from his wife Mrs. Sudha Murthy. It was incorporated as "Infosys Consultants Pvt Ltd.", and the registered office of the company was established at Raghavan's house in Matunga. After that, in 1983, the company moved to Bangalore, which is the capital of Karnataka. Infosys got its first international client in 1987, which was Data Basics Corporation based in the United States.
     
     
    The year 1999 saw Infosys attain a SEI-CMM Level 5 ranking and it then became the first national level company which was listed on NASDAQ. Infosys in the year 2001 was rated as the "Best Employer in India" by Business Today magazine, and subsequently in the year 2002, the Business World magazine named Infosys as "India's Most Respected Company". The company also Global MAKE , which is actually the abbreviated form for Most Admired Knowledge Enterprises award, consecutively for 2003, 2004 and 2005. This was a record in itself since it was the only Indian company which won this award and was inducted into Global Hall of Fame for this reason.
     
     
    Initiatives taken by Infosys
     
    In the year 1996, Infosys had created Infosys Foundation in Karnataka state, and has been operating in the areas of social rehabilitation and rural upliftment, health care, arts, education and culture. Ever since, the foundation has expanded its operations in the states of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and Orissa. The organization Infosys Foundation is chaired by Mrs. Sudha Murthy, who is the wife of Mr.Narayana Murthy.
     
    Since the year 2004, the company Infosys has been involved in a series of initiatives which will help consolidate and formalize some of its academic relationships on a worldwide basis, all under an umbrella program known as ACE or Academic Entente. The company remains in touch with all its important stakeholders in the academic circles, through participation in academic conferences and university events, case studies, research collaborations and hosting study trips to the various Infosys Development Centers as well as running the InStep Global Internship Program, which recognizes the fact that this message extends beyond campuses to shareholders, partners, customers and also other stakeholders who are in some way associated with academia.
